Campanula lactiflora 'Prichard's Variety'
An upright perennial with clusters of violet-blue, bell-shaped flowers.
Care notes by theboxerge Updated
About this plant
This tall bellflower brings a soft violet-blue layer to a perennial border. Its branching flower stems work best where neighbouring plants leave room for the clump, rather than in a small pot that cannot support the summer growth.
Care at a glance
- Light
- Sun or partial shade; light shade helps preserve flower colour.
- Watering
- Keep the root zone moist during establishment and dry spells, allowing excess water to drain.
- Soil
- Fertile, moisture-retentive but draining soil; neutral to alkaline conditions.
Plan your care
Plan for support before the flowering stems become tall, especially in an exposed border. Put stakes around the clump so they support the stems without bunching all the flowers together.
After the first display, cutting back the flowered stems can encourage another flush. Allowing seeds to ripen creates seedlings that may differ from the named cultivar; divide an established clump if you want to retain its characteristics.
Growing tips
This is a border perennial, not a drought-proof container plant. If leaves wilt, check the soil before adding water; a wet root zone calls for a drainage check instead.
