About this plant
Orange Dream is grown for its leaves and seasonal colour rather than a flower display. A container allows the canopy to become a focal point, but roots need more protection from drying winds than they would in the ground.
Care at a glance
- Light
- Sheltered sun or partial shade
- Watering
- Keep the root ball evenly moist in dry weather
- Soil
- Well-draining, moisture-retentive compost
Plan your care
Place the maple where you can see the seasonal foliage without exposing it to the balcony’s strongest afternoon heat. A pale leaf edge after a windy spell calls for a moisture and shelter check before extra feed.
Leave room to reach the root ball and rotate or move the container if needed. A display planned only around the current nursery size can become crowded as the canopy expands.
Growing tips
Shelter from strong wind and harsh afternoon sun. Check the whole root ball before watering: a damp surface can hide dry compost beneath. Avoid heavy pruning simply to force a mature tree into a small space.
