Care notes by theboxerge Updated
About this plant
A shrub-form bay branches close to the base and provides a fuller shape than a single-stem standard. Leave room around the pot so new shoots can develop evenly.
Care at a glance
- Light
- Bright light or sun
- Temperature
- Outdoor plant; protect from hard frost
- Watering
- Water when the surface begins to dry
- Soil
- Free-draining potting compost
Plan your care
Choose the shrub form when you want foliage from near pot level rather than a bare stem below the canopy. Leave a gap from neighbouring pots so the outline can develop evenly.
Shape lightly as growth needs it and keep access to the compost. A dense canopy can hide a dry root ball, so do not rely on the amount of rain you remember having.
Growing tips
Clip lightly to keep the desired shape. A container can dry quickly in wind, while cold, wet compost is a problem in winter; check drainage and shelter the pot during severe cold.
