Care notes by theboxerge Updated

About this plant

Fittonia forms a small, spreading canopy. It can suit a humid display or terrarium with suitable ventilation, but a dry, sunny windowsill is a poor match.

Care at a glance

Light
Filtered light; avoid strong direct sun.
Temperature
60-85 °F
Watering
Keep the compost lightly moist without standing water; check before wilting.
Soil
A draining houseplant mix in a container with open drainage holes.
Humidity
high humidity

Plan your care

A humid, accessible display is more suitable than a hot dry sill. If using a terrarium, make sure you can inspect the soil and ventilate it rather than treating the enclosure as maintenance-free.

Check moisture before responding to limp foliage. A dry pot needs water, but a wet, stagnant display needs its conditions corrected. Do not repeatedly let the plant collapse as a reminder to water.

Growing tips

Keep compost lightly moist and avoid direct sunlight. Check frequently in warm weather instead of waiting for wilting. In an enclosed display, watch for condensation and stagnant, saturated compost.
