About this plant
Peperomias are often chosen for leaf shape and colour in small indoor displays. Their watering needs vary with leaf thickness and growing conditions; a plant with fleshy leaves should not be treated like a moisture-loving fern.
Care at a glance
- Light
- Medium to bright indirect light.
- Temperature
- 60-85 °F
- Watering
- Let the mix partly dry between waterings; adjust for the particular species.
- Soil
- A draining houseplant mix in a container with open drainage holes.
- Humidity
- high humidity
Plan your care
Peperomia is a broad group, so first compare the leaf thickness and habit of your plant with its label. A fleshy-leaved type should not automatically share the schedule of a moisture-loving plant beside it.
Use the pot weight and the moisture below the surface to guide watering. If the pot stays heavy and wet for a long time, inspect drainage before adding more water to a drooping plant.
Growing tips
Let the potting mix partly dry and use a freely draining pot. Give patterned leaves bright, indirect light. Check the compost before interpreting a drooping leaf as a need for more water.
