Care notes by theboxerge Updated

About this plant

A summer-fruiting raspberry with a relatively compact habit. Its pruning cycle differs from autumn-fruiting raspberries, so keeping track of which canes have already carried fruit is central to the next crop.

Care at a glance

Light
Full sun, sheltered from strong winds.
Watering
Keep soil moist during establishment and fruit development; avoid standing water.
Soil
Well-drained, moisture-retentive soil, neutral to acidic.

Plan your care

Grow a row between supporting wires so the canes remain accessible. Keep new canes distinct from the older fruiting stems throughout the season.

After the summer crop, remove the canes that fruited down to ground level and train in the healthy new growth. Cutting every cane down as though this were an autumn raspberry would remove the framework for the next summer's fruit. Watch for suckers beyond the intended row.

Growing tips

Use healthy planting material and maintain picking space. A mulch can reduce surface drying, but it is not a substitute for checking moisture when the crop is developing.
