Rudbeckia fulgida var. deamii
A clump-forming perennial with bright yellow, dark-centred daisies in late summer and autumn.
Care notes by theboxerge Updated
This rudbeckia carries yellow daisy-like flowers with dark centres late in the season. Its clump gives a border a useful repeat of colour when earlier perennials are finishing, especially where the soil holds some summer moisture.
Leave room for the clump rather than squeezing it between rapidly spreading neighbours. Inspect young shoots for slugs before they gain height.
Decide whether you want a tidier late-season display or winter structure. Remove fading flowerheads for tidiness, or retain sound stems and seedheads into winter. Cut remaining old growth back when preparing the clump for new spring shoots.
An overcrowded clump can be divided in spring or autumn. Replant divisions promptly and check their moisture while roots establish; they do not yet have an old clump's drought tolerance.
