About this plant
Mature spider plants often produce white flowers and young plantlets on long stems. A shelf or hanging pot gives this growth room without bending it against a surface.
Care at a glance
- Light
- Medium to bright indirect light.
- Temperature
- 60-85 °F
- Watering
- Water as the compost surface dries; drain and empty the saucer.
- Soil
- A draining houseplant mix in a container with open drainage holes.
Plan your care
Allow space below or beside the pot for arching stems and plantlets. A hanging position should still be low enough to check moisture and remove collected water.
If you want to propagate, choose a plantlet that has developed roots rather than removing the youngest growth. Care for the established parent according to the compost condition; the presence of plantlets is not a reason to keep the roots constantly wet.
Growing tips
Water as the surface of the compost dries and avoid a water-filled saucer. Separate a plantlet for propagation once it has developed roots, rather than cutting off very young growth before it can establish.
