Care notes by theboxerge Updated
About this plant
Anthurium carries a coloured spathe around a central flower spike. Orange, pink, purple, red and white forms share the same basic care here; the colour choice does not change the need for indirect light and freely draining roots.
Care at a glance
- Light
- Bright, indirect light
- Temperature
- Warm indoor conditions, roughly 18–29°C (65–85°F); protect from cold draughts.
- Watering
- Water when the upper mix has dried; drain fully and avoid prolonged complete drying.
- Soil
- An airy, well-draining houseplant mix
- Humidity
- Prefers humid air with gentle air circulation.
Plan your care
Choose a bright position out of strong direct sun and away from heating or cooling vents. If growth slows and flowers are scarce in a dim corner, assess the light before increasing fertiliser.
Check the upper mix before watering; allow it to begin drying without leaving the whole root ball dry for long. Water thoroughly, drain, and empty the outer pot. A consistently heavy, wet pot needs a drainage check.
Remove spent flower stems with clean tools and gloves. If repotting is needed, move up only modestly in pot size and keep the mix open with coarse material rather than packing roots into dense soil.
Colours in this profile
These colour variants share the care guidance above. Choose by colour; check the label for any cultivar-specific instructions.
Growing tips
Prefer a room where humidity is reasonably steady. Keep the foliage clear of hot radiators; adding water to already wet compost will not correct dry air.
