Guzmania spp.
A rosette-forming bromeliad whose colourful bracts last beyond its small flowers.

About this plant
Pink, red and yellow guzmanias provide colour above a rosette of strap-shaped leaves. Each rosette flowers once, then gradually declines while offsets can grow at its base. A fading older rosette is not automatically a sign that extra feeding is needed.
Care at a glance
- Light
- Bright, filtered light
- Temperature
- Warm and frost-free; protect from cold draughts.
- Watering
- Keep the mix lightly moist, never saturated
- Soil
- An airy bromeliad mix with drainage.
- Humidity
- A humid room with gentle airflow.
Plan your care
Place the plant in bright filtered light with warmth and humidity. Use an airy bromeliad mix and keep the root zone lightly moist during growth, not waterlogged; reduce watering as growth slows.
If the plant has a central water-holding cup, use rainwater or distilled water and refresh it regularly so it does not become stagnant. Watering the cup does not replace checking the potting mix.
After the display fades, look for healthy offsets before discarding the plant. Give them time to develop; forcing the old rosette with extra water will not make it flower again. Check leaf bases for pests when you inspect the offsets.

These colour variants share the care guidance above. Choose by colour; check the label for any cultivar-specific instructions.
Growing tips
Keep the plant accessible for cup cleaning and moisture checks. A deep decorative container that hides standing water makes these jobs harder.
