About this plant
A lime tree can be grown in a container when year-round light and temperature needs can be met. Keep enough space around the canopy for ventilation and access when watering.
Care at a glance
- Light
- Bright light and sun
- Watering
- Water as the surface starts to dry; drain fully
- Soil
- Free-draining citrus compost
Plan your care
Choose a lime only when you can provide brightness and protection through the cold season. A balcony that works well in summer may not supply a suitable year-round environment.
Leave space to inspect stems and leaf undersides. If water collects inside an outer pot, empty it before returning the plant to its display position; adding gravel around a trapped nursery pot does not remove the water.
Growing tips
Avoid sudden changes between a cool outdoor position and a hot room. Do not leave the pot in a water-filled saucer, and check for scale insects on stems and leaf undersides.
