Care notes by theboxerge Updated
About this plant
The twisted trunk is a trained ornamental form. Its exposed stem and raised canopy make a heavy, stable container especially useful in an outdoor position.
Care at a glance
- Light
- Bright light or sun
- Watering
- Water when the surface begins to dry
- Soil
- Free-draining potting compost
Plan your care
The twisted stem changes the silhouette, not the basic water needs of bay. Compare it with a shrub form if you want a fuller screen near the base of the pot.
Give particular attention to stability and space around the exposed stem. Avoid placing it where passing people repeatedly brush the trunk, and check for trapped water after cold wet weather.
Growing tips
Clip lightly to keep the desired shape. A container can dry quickly in wind, while cold, wet compost is a problem in winter; check drainage and shelter the pot during severe cold.
